Webinar: Hurricanes, One of the Original Cats

Of the 285 billion-dollar weather disasters between 1980 and 2021, tropical cyclones have caused the most damage: $1.062 trillion in total, with an average cost of almost $20 billion per event. These disasters are also responsible for the highest number of deaths: 6,593 between 1980 and 2020.

In response, hurricane parametric cover has emerged as a robust alternative risk transfer solution for businesses and public entities to build resilience against this evolving peril.

On March 10th 2022, Colin Harper, Senior Business Development Manager, North America at Descartes Underwriting joined industry experts Derrick Easton, Alternative Risk Transfer Solutions – Managing Director at Willis Towers Watson and Diego Monsalve, LAC HEAD Risk Consulting, Analytics, Catastrophe Modeling and Parametric Solutions at Lockton, for a lively roundtable discussion. The experts took a deep dive into hurricanes as well as how associated economic risk might be transferred, and shared insights into how a major hurricane could impact the insurance industry.
